On 23rd August 2025, our college organized a Project Orientation Programme for us. The session was held from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the College General Hall.
The resource person for the programme was Dr. Lakshmi A, Associate Professor in General Education at N.S.S Training College, Pandalam. She was warmly welcomed and introduced to the gathering.

During the session, she gave a detailed orientation about mini projects, case studies, and action research. The concepts were explained clearly through a well-prepared PowerPoint presentation, which made it easier for us to understand the structure, methodology, and practical applications of each research type.

A Pause in Teaching Practice

Due to the Onam examinations in our school, we had to pause our teaching practice for a period of two weeks. Since regular classes could not be conducted for students, our college called us back to continue with the third semester sessions.

The sudden shift from being in front of the classroom as a teacher trainee to sitting back on the benches as a student again felt quite different. Teaching practice had already given us a sense of responsibility and confidence, but returning to college reminded us that we are still learners on this journey.

This balance between learning and teaching is what truly shapes us into better educators.

Week 5 : A Week of Celebrations, Responsibilities, and Goodbyes

Weekly Reflection
Week 5 (11 August 2025 – 16 August 2025)

Day 1 (11/08/2025)

The week started with a vibrant and meaningful celebration of Sanskrit Day. The morning assembly was entirely conducted in Sanskrit, which made the experience truly unique and enlightening. Though it was slightly longer than usual, it highlighted the richness and beauty of the ancient language. Because of the extended assembly, I only had about 30 minutes instead of the usual 40 to handle my first-period class. Even with the reduced time, I ensured that the students remained engaged and that the learning objectives were met. The day also felt incomplete as our peer, David, could not attend school due to a family funeral. His absence was noticeable, especially during group activities and our regular peer discussions. Along with this, I carried out my regular classroom duties and school responsibilities as usual.

Day 2 (12/08/2025)

This day unfolded with unexpected but meaningful experiences. Although I had no regular class as per the timetable, I was given a substitution period, which gave me another opportunity to interact with students. The highlight of the day was the special lunch menu—a delightful spread of vegetable fried rice, boiled egg, salad, and vegetable kuruma. Sharing this meal with peers and teachers brought a sense of joy and togetherness. Later, we joined Sajeev Sir in organizing a Mathematics Quiz for the students. It was exciting to watch students participate enthusiastically, showing both teamwork and competitive spirit. In the evening, we attended a staff meeting, where emotions were mixed. The work experience teacher offered us a small treat to celebrate his promotion transfer to Wayanad. The meeting also emphasized preparations for the upcoming Independence Day celebration, adding to the sense of responsibility and anticipation.

Day 3 (13/08/2025)

This was a relatively calm and routine day. According to the timetable, I had a class with 8A, and I delivered my lesson smoothly. The students were attentive and responded well, which gave me confidence. Apart from that, I continued with my daily responsibilities in the school, which by now had become part of my natural rhythm as a teacher-trainee.

Day 4 (14/08/2025)

The highlight of the day was the School Parliament Election, which turned out to be an inspiring and futuristic experience. What made it even more remarkable was that the election was digitally organized by a student, Robin Biju of Class 10. His technical skill and initiative drew appreciation from everyone. The election process was also monitored by police officers, which brought an added sense of formality and responsibility to the occasion. Students first voted for class leaders, and then the elected representatives voted for higher positions. By the end of the day, Robin Biju (10B) was declared as the new School Leader, and Niranjana (8B) as the Chairperson. This democratic experience gave students a sense of responsibility and ownership in school affairs.
Academically, I used the day to conduct my diagnostic test, handing out printed question papers to the students. Though I didn’t have regular teaching hours, I also handled a substitution class, making the day productive overall.

Day 5 (15/08/2025)

This was a day of patriotism and celebration. We arrived at the school by 8:30 a.m. to take part in the Independence Day program. The event began with the flag hoisting ceremony, filling the atmosphere with pride and reverence. This was followed by a series of performances by students—including patriotic songs, dances, and inspiring speeches—all of which reflected their love for the nation. The program concluded around 10 a.m., but the spirit of unity and freedom lingered throughout the day. Being part of such a celebration as a teacher-trainee was a moment of honor and responsibility.

Day 6 (16/08/2025)

Today was a Saturday, but it was treated as a working day with Friday’s timetable. According to my schedule, I had two periods in the morning, which went smoothly. In the evening, we joined the teachers in preparing classrooms for the upcoming Onam examinations by arranging benches and sticking register numbers. Since the Onam exams were about to begin, our teaching practice had to pause, and we would be returning to our college to attend regular classes. It felt a little emotional bidding goodbye to the teachers and students, though they warmly invited us to join them again for the Onam celebrations.

Week 5 was a meaningful blend of cultural celebrations, student engagement, and leadership experiences, from Sanskrit Day and school elections to Independence Day festivities. The week also marked a temporary pause in teaching due to Onam exams, giving me time to reflect on my growth and the memorable moments with students and teachers.

Independence Day Celebration at G.H.S. Thalachira

Independence Day at our school was a day filled with patriotism, pride, and joy. We arrived at the school at 8:30 a.m. and joined the students and staff for the flag hoisting ceremony, which created a solemn yet inspiring atmosphere. Following the ceremony, the students performed patriotic songs, dances, and speeches, showcasing their creativity, enthusiasm, and love for the nation.

As part of our duties, we actively assisted in organizing the event and ensured that everything ran smoothly. The energy and participation of the students made the celebration truly memorable. To add to the joy of the day, everyone was served laddu and payasam, making the occasion sweeter and more festive.

Being part of such a celebration as a teacher-trainee was not just about witnessing performances—it was about experiencing the unity, discipline, and spirit of celebration among students. This day reminded me that a teacher’s role extends beyond academics, as we contribute to shaping values, patriotism, and happiness in the lives of students.

Independence Day was a perfect blend of cultural pride and personal growth. I realized how important it is for a teacher to participate, guide, and celebrate with students, making these moments both educational and memorable.

Week 4: A Week of Learning and Leading Beyond the Classroom

Weekly Reflection
Week 3 (28 July 2025 – 01 August 2025)

Day 1 (04/08/2025)

The fourth week began with the Monday morning assembly. Today’s assembly ran longer than usual because it was a moment of celebration for the whole school. Trophies were awarded to the winners of the sub-district level quiz competition, and the pride and joy on the faces of the students and teachers were truly heartwarming. The atmosphere was filled with applause and cheer. In addition to my scheduled classes, I was entrusted with two substitution periods, where I engaged with the students to keep them active and attentive. As always, I also carried out my daily responsibilities, which are now becoming a natural part of my school routine.

Day 2 (05/08/2025)

It was a calm and steady day. According to my timetable, I did not have any teaching periods scheduled, but I was assigned substitution classes. This gave me the opportunity to interact with different groups of students outside my regular classes, helping me better understand their learning styles and personalities. It was a reminder that even on seemingly ordinary days, a teacher’s presence in the classroom can make a difference.A notable event of the day was the General PTA meeting held at the school auditorium, during which new PTA members were selected.

Day 3 (06/08/2025)

Today was a significant milestone in my teaching practice, as we had an observation by our general teacher from college, Arun Sir. According to my timetable, I did not have a class in 9B, but our mentor teacher, showing her support, arranged the schedule so that I could present my lesson, even though she was not present in school today. We were a bit tense since an unexpected power outage meant I couldn’t use the projector as planned. However, I adapted quickly, delivering the lesson using my laptop, charts, and other teaching aids.
I taught the topic “Structure of Villus” in the second period, incorporating a variety of audio-visual aids such as a still model, educational videos, charts, and activity cards to make the lesson engaging and clear. My peers, Keerthy and David, took their observation classes in the third and fourth periods respectively. Arun Sir gave each of us valuable feedback, highlighting strengths and suggesting areas for improvement. His words reassured me that adaptability and resourcefulness are just as important as preparation in teaching.

Day 4 (07/08/2025)

The day began as usual, with a calm start. Today, our peer Keerthy had her observation session with her optional teacher, Ms. Sreelakshmi. Her class took place during the third period, and I supported her by helping with the arrangements and ensuring her materials were ready. The observation went smoothly, and it was inspiring to watch her handle her lesson with confidence. The rest of the day was spent performing our regular duties and taking a few substitution classes when needed.

Day 5 (08/08/2025)

Today was a break from the regular academic routine—it was all about sports, energy, and teamwork. The school grounds came alive with excitement as race competitions were held for different student categories. Together with our mentor teachers, Smitha Teacher and Sajeev Sir, we coordinated and conducted the events. The LP kiddies and LP mini kiddies races took place on the school ground, while the UP kiddies, junior, and sub-junior races were held at a venue opposite the school.
It was a busy and physically demanding day, with a large number of students participating enthusiastically. Some children became tired after their events, and we took care to ensure they rested and stayed hydrated. Though tiring, it was a rewarding experience that reminded me that a teacher’s role extends well beyond academics. Being part of the students’ joy, enthusiasm, and competitive spirit was deeply fulfilling, and it strengthened my bond with them in a different, more personal way.

Week 4 was a rewarding blend of teaching challenges, observation experiences, and active participation in school events, helping me grow as a confident and adaptable educator. It reinforced the importance of flexibility and engagement both inside and outside the classroom.

A Day of Energy and Enthusiasm: Sports Day at G. H. S. Thalachira

Sports Day at Government High School, Thalachira was nothing short of a festival of energy, enthusiasm, and teamwork. Unlike the usual routine of academic lessons, the entire day was dedicated to athletic competitions, filling the school with vibrant cheers and excitement.

Together with our mentor teachers, Smitha Teacher and Sajeev Sir, we coordinated and conducted the events. The LP kiddies and LP mini kiddies races took place on the school ground, while the UP kiddies, junior, and sub-junior races were held at a venue opposite the school. The thrill of conducting these races gave us a sense of responsibility and joy, as we witnessed the enthusiasm and determination of the young athletes.

Meanwhile, other athletic events such as shot put, long jump, and other track-and-field competitions were organized and coordinated by other teachers. Together, these activities turned the entire school into a hub of sportsmanship and celebration.

Adding to the day’s uniqueness was the special lunch served for teachers and staff. The meal—featuring rice, tapioca, fish curry, and pulisseri—was a delicious and heartwarming treat that gave us much-needed energy after a morning filled with activities. It added a homely and festive touch to the day, making everyone feel connected and cared for.
It was indeed a physically demanding day, with a large number of students participating enthusiastically. Some children grew tired after their events, and we made sure they rested and stayed hydrated. Though tiring, the experience was truly rewarding. Sports Day reminded me that education is not confined to classrooms alone—it also thrives in moments of teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and joy.

Week 3: Duties, Dedication, and Development

Weekly Reflection
Week 3 (28 July 2025 – 01 August 2025)

Day 1 (28/07/2025)

The third week of my teaching practice began with the familiar rhythm of the morning assembly, where the school community gathered in unity. The day progressed according to my timetable, with my scheduled classes going smoothly. I was also assigned substitution periods, which allowed me to engage with students from other classes and adapt my teaching approach to different age groups. As part of our routine duties, I, along with my peers, carried out the noon meal distribution, ensuring students were served in an orderly and timely manner. Later, we managed student dispersal, guiding them safely out of the school premises. The day ended with a sense of quiet accomplishment.

Day 2  (29/07/2025)

Today was an energetic and multifaceted day, balancing academic responsibilities with the excitement of sports activities. Due to a shortage of teachers, I handled several substitution periods, making sure learning continued effectively in those classes. The remainder of the day was filled with supervising and coordinating athletic competitions, including football, volleyball, and badminton, across different categories of students. These events not only showcased students’ talents but also fostered teamwork and sportsmanship. Despite the hectic schedule, I ensured my noon meal duty and student dispersal responsibilities were fulfilled with care. We concluded the day at 5:00 p.m., feeling both physically tired and mentally satisfied after contributing to both academics and extracurricular activities.

Day 3  (30/07/2025)

The morning carried a somber atmosphere as the entire school observed a moment of silence at 9:45 a.m. to remember the 53 students who tragically lost their lives in the Puthumala landslide. The tribute, marked by a two-bell ceremony, filled the environment with a sense of empathy and reflection. My day included both my regular teaching periods and additional substitution duties. There was also a visit from DEO Office staff for inspection, which added to the day’s seriousness. Although I was still recovering from the busy sports schedule of the previous day, I remained active in my responsibilities—helping with the midday meal distribution, updating academic records, and supervising student dispersal. The day concluded at 4:15 p.m., leaving me with a blend of emotional depth and professional fulfillment.

Day 4  (31/07/2025)

This was a relatively calm yet engaging day. In addition to my regular classes and substitution periods, the highlight was participating in the conduct of a quiz competition in the afternoon. Under the guidance of Sajeev Sir and our mentor, Smitha Teacher, the competition aimed to prepare students for the upcoming sub-district level contests. The event was lively, with enthusiastic participation from students, and it provided me with a valuable opportunity to learn event management skills in an academic setting. We continued with our usual duties of meal supervision and student dispersal, maintaining the daily rhythm of school life.

Day 5  (01/08/2025)

Today stood out as a milestone in my teaching practice—the observation visit by my optional teacher, Dr. Praveena. I was informed the previous night, so I prepared thoroughly and arranged to swap a period, as my timetable for Friday did not have a second-period class in 9B. With the support of my mentor, Mrs. Smith S., and the cooperation of my students, the class setting was encouraging and positive. Initially, I felt slightly tense, aware of being observed, but once I began teaching, my focus shifted to the lesson and the students’ engagement, which made the nervousness disappear. For the observation, I took the topic "Swallowing", using an ICT-based lesson plan. I followed the plan meticulously, integrating visuals and interactive elements to enhance student engagement. After observing my session, Dr. Praveena also observed my peer David’s class during the third period. She provided valuable feedback, pointing out my positive aspects, such as classroom engagement and clear explanations, while also giving constructive suggestions for improvement. Her words were both encouraging and instructive, boosting my confidence and giving me clear directions for refining my teaching strategies.

Week 3 was a balanced mix of routine teaching, active participation in school events, and professional growth, highlighted by my observation session with Dr. Praveena, whose constructive feedback boosted my confidence and guided my teaching improvement.
