A Heartfelt Start to Community Service at Snehatheeram, Vilakudy

On the first day of our community service program at Snehatheeram, Vilakudy, we were introduced to the facility and its mission of uplifting women from disadvantaged backgrounds and a care home for children. We began our visit by interacting with the Sister Roselin, who founded Snehatheeram. She shared with us the history and background of the organization, giving us a deeper understanding of the mission and vision behind this initiative. We toured the well-maintained office building where children stay, complete with dormitories, study rooms, and recreational spaces, and learned about the care provided to both children and mentally challenged adults. I had the opportunity to interact with mentally challenged individuals and understand their therapeutic activities like carpet making, rosary making etc. In the afternoon, I also had the opportunity to  teach a sixth-grade student, Mathematics, which was a rewarding experience as a B.Ed. student.

The first day was an enriching experience, allowing us to connect with the children and residents while gaining an understanding of the daily activities and challenges they face. It was a day full of learning, both academically and emotionally, and it set a positive tone for the days to come.
