Stepping into Acting: My Unforgettable First Drama Performance at College

The drama performance at college featured 20 groups, each showcasing their unique interpretations and messages. Our group, consisting of five members, tackled the important topic of teenage pregnancy. It was my first experience in acting, and I played the role of Meera, a 9th-grade student facing the challenges of an unexpected pregnancy. Stepping into this role was both exciting and nerve-wracking, but I was honored to receive appreciation for my performance.

Microteaching Phase 2: Skill of Explanation

Today, during my Microteaching Phase 2 session, I focused on enhancing my skill of explaining, covering the topic of "Osmosis and Its Types" from 2:00 pm to 2:15 pm. I began by explaining the essential components of effective explaining, I used diagrams, experiment, examples to help clarify the concepts and ensure understanding. The session concluded with a brief recap and an open floor for any questions, providing a chance for students to engage further with the material.

Although the teacher commented that my class was Teacher-Centered, I made sure to give students opportunities to ask questions and share their thoughts throughout the lesson. I’m unsure why the feedback was focused on being Teacher-Centered, as I felt I encouraged student participation, but I will reflect on how to improve the balance between teacher explanation and student involvement in future lessons.

Feedback and Growth : My Microteaching Experience

Today, during the first phase of my microteaching practical, I participated as a student in other departments from 10:00 AM to 1:15 PM. This experience allowed me to observe various teaching styles and methods in action.

Later, I focused on the "Skill of Introducing a Lesson", which I planned to demonstrate in my microteaching session. At 3:00 PM, I began the session by describing the components of this skill, emphasizing its importance in establishing a clear framework for the lesson and engaging students right from the start. The topic I chose was "Diversity in the Structural Framework."

During the 15-minute micro-lesson, I introduced the topic by setting the context and objectives, followed by an engaging hook to capture the students' interest. I used appropriate devices such as relevant pictures and analogy related to the topic. I got appreciation for that and also received feedback for the area to be improve from both my teacher and peer group.

This session provided me with valuable insights and practical tips to enhance my teaching techniques, especially when introducing complex topics effectively to students.

Teaching Skills in Action: A Hands-On Microteaching Experience ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿซ

The demonstration class of microteaching, conducted by seniors and super seniors, was arranged for all departments in the general hall, showcasing 10 essential teaching skills. These skills ranged from effectively introducing a lesson to executing a proper closure.

While the general session covered all 10 skills, our department, specifically the Natural Science optional class, had a unique focus on the skill of demonstration. This skill was tailored to our subject, providing a specialized and hands-on approach to teaching, ensuring that the demonstration was relevant and engaging for the students in the Natural Science field.

This microteaching event was an enriching experience, and we look forward to implementing these skills in our future teaching practices.
