Strengthening Teaching Skills Through Demonstration Classes

 Micro Teaching Demonstration –
A Valuable Experience

The micro teaching demonstration class was conducted during our teaching practice period. On the same day, we had our internal examination, and after completing it, the seniors organized the micro teaching demonstration session.

I got the opportunity to demonstrate the skill of explaining, and I selected the topic “Voluntary and Involuntary Muscles.” The class was held in the general hall, where junior students from different departments attended the session.

The students assigned to me were very cooperative, attentive, and interested throughout the class. Their active participation made the teaching process effective and enjoyable. I was able to explain the concepts clearly using suitable examples, which helped the learners understand the topic better

Micro teaching demonstration was a rewarding and confidence-building experience.

Teaching Practice Week 4: Classroom Engagement and School Duties

Weekly Reflection
Week 4 (24 November – 28 November 2025)

Day 1 – Monday (24/11/2025)
Today, the morning assembly was not conducted due to the demise of the father of a student from Class 8B. As a mark of respect and support, teachers, staff, and students visited the student’s home.
Later, I took my scheduled class as well as a substitution period. I also actively participated in the midday meal serving and student dispersal duties along with my peers, fulfilling my responsibilities for the day.

Day 2 – Tuesday (25/11/2025)
It was a routine working day. Though I did not have any scheduled classes as per the timetable, I was allotted a substitution period, which helped me interact with students in an informal and supportive manner. In the afternoon, I responsibly carried out the midday meal serving and dispersal duties.

Day 3 – Wednesday (26/11/2025)
I had a scheduled class in Class 8A, where the teaching–learning process was smooth and engaging. As usual, I took part in the midday meal serving and dispersal duties in the afternoon, gaining more experience in managing school responsibilities beyond classroom teaching.

Day 4 – Thursday (27/11/2025)
Today, I was assigned substitution periods. Along with handling these classes, I continued with my regular school duties, which contributed to my understanding of a teacher’s day-to-day responsibilities.

Day 5 – Friday (28/11/2025)
On the final day of the week, I had a scheduled period in Class 9. I also performed the midday meal serving and student dispersal duties in the afternoon, concluding the week with a sense of responsibility and satisfaction.

Week 4 of teaching practice was marked by moments of empathy, responsibility, and continued professional engagement. Along with classroom teaching, participating in school duties and supporting the school community during difficult times helped me understand the emotional and social dimensions of the teaching profession.

Week 3 Chronicles: Learning, Teaching and Growing Together

Weekly Reflection
Week 3 (17 November – 21 November 2025)

Day 1 – Tuesday (17/11/2025)
The third week of teaching practice began with a special morning assembly, which lasted nearly one hour. The assembly was organised to celebrate the achievements of Government High School, Thalachira in the Kottarakkara Sub-district Kalolsavam 2025–26.
The school received the following honours:
  • HS Arabic – First Overall
  • HS Sanskrit – Second Overall
  • UP Arabic – Second Overall
  • LP Arabic – Third Overall
As per the timetable, I was assigned the first period in Class 9B, but it was later shifted to the second hour due to the extended assembly. Later in the day, I actively participated in the midday meal serving and student dispersal duties along with my peers.

Day 2 – Tuesday (18/11/2025)
Today was a routine working day. Although I had no scheduled periods according to the timetable, I was allotted a substitution period, which provided an opportunity to interact with students. In the afternoon, I responsibly carried out the midday meal serving and dispersal duties.

Day 3 – Wednesday (19/11/2025)
It was a busy and productive day with a scheduled class in Class 8A. The classroom interaction was engaging and effective. I also participated in the midday meal serving and dispersal duties in the afternoon, gaining experience in managing co-curricular responsibilities.

Day 4 – Thursday (20/11/2025)
Today was a significant day in my teaching practice, as my class was observed by Praveena Teacher. I taught the topic “Different Types of Muscles.” The observation session was very helpful, and the teacher provided valuable feedback to improve my teaching skills.
On the same day, David’s class was also observed. After the observation, I continued with my regular school duties.

Day 5 – Friday (21/11/2025)
On the final day of the week, I had scheduled periods in Class 9, along with a few substitution periods. I also performed the midday meal serving and dispersal duties in the afternoon. However, I was not well due to fever, which affected my physical comfort, though I tried my best to complete my responsibilities.

Week 3 of teaching practice was a balanced mix of classroom teaching, observation, and school duties. The observation and feedback sessions contributed greatly to my professional growth, while participating in midday meal duties helped me understand the wider responsibilities of a teacher in school life.

A Week Inside the Classroom: Lessons Beyond the Textbook

Weekly Reflection
Week 2 (10 November – 14 November 2025)

Day 1 – Monday (10/11/2025)

The second week began with the Monday morning assembly conducted by Class 7B, where the felicitation of State Level Science Fair winners added an inspiring touch to the event. As per the timetable, I handled my regular period in Class 9B and also received an additional substitution period in the same class, which allowed me more time to interact with the students. Later, I took part in the midday meal serving and dispersal duties along with my peers. Overall, it was an active and engaging start to the week.

Day 2 – Tuesday (11/11/2025)

Today was a routine working day with no scheduled periods as per the timetable, but I received a substitution period in Class 9B, which helped me stay connected with the students and assist them in their studies. In the afternoon, I actively took part in the midday meal serving and dispersal duties. The day was calm and smooth, giving me time to observe the school environment and participate in regular school activities.

Day 3 – Wednesday (12/11/2025)

It was a busy day with a scheduled class in 8A and a few additional substitution periods, though the student strength remained low due to Kalolsavam practice. Considering the reduced attendance, I conducted the lesson only during my scheduled period in 8A. I also participated in the midday meal serving and dispersal duties in the afternoon. Despite the lower student turnout, the day remained productive and helped me stay engaged in teaching and supporting students.

Day 4 – Thursday (13/11/2025)

Today was hectic and eventful as I received two substitution periods in the Upper Primary section due to a shortage of teachers. Handling Class 5B was a new and insightful experience, with a mix of hyperactive and enthusiastic learners; to keep them meaningfully engaged, I narrated a story from their Malayalam textbook, which they enjoyed. I also supervised Class 7 during their P.T. period. In the High School section, I handled a few more substitution periods, although attendance was low due to the Sub-District Kalolsavam. Along with this, I took part in the midday meal duty, milk distribution, and dispersal duty, making the day both challenging and rewarding.

Day 5 – Friday (14/11/2025)

Today, I had scheduled periods in Classes 8 and 9 along with a few substitution periods, but due to reduced student strength, I focused only on my regular classes. I performed the midday meal duty and dispersal duty in the afternoon. The continuous substitution work made the day tiring, and I experienced throat pain from prolonged speaking, reminding me of the need for proper vocal care. Despite the fatigue, it was a productive day, and I managed my responsibilities efficiently.

Week 2 was a productive and enriching experience, giving me opportunities to handle diverse classes, manage responsibilities, and adapt to varying school situations, which strengthened my confidence as a teacher.

Pearls, Petals, and Lessons – The First Week of Teaching Practice

Weekly Reflection
Week 1 (05 November – 07 November 2025)

The fourth-semester teaching practice is an essential part of the B.Ed. programme, aimed at providing student-teachers with real classroom experience and helping them refine their pedagogical and professional skills. It offers a platform to apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations, fostering confidence and competence in teaching.
Our 30-day teaching practice began at Government High School, Thalachira, under the mentorship of Smitha Teacher. My peer group members were Keerthy Molly Jacob (Mathematics) and David C. Alex (Natural Science). Returning to the same school from our third-semester practice made the environment familiar and comforting, enabling us to begin this new phase with enthusiasm and readiness.
This time, the room we used previously has now been converted into a library (เด—്เดฐเดจ്เดฅเดชുเดฐ). The teachers kindly allowed us to sit and work there, which made it a peaceful and resourceful space for our preparations.

Day 1 (05/11/2025 – Wednesday)

Today marked the first day of our 30-day teaching practice. We reached the school at 9:15 a.m. and met the Headmaster to submit our attendance register. Our mentor, Smitha Teacher, warmly welcomed us and offered her valuable guidance for the new phase.
I was assigned to handle Classes 9B (English Medium) and 8A (Malayalam Medium). As per the timetable, I had a class in 8A today. The students were excited to see me again after the previous phase of practice. The lesson proceeded well, and the students participated actively in the learning activities. Attendance was slightly lower as some students were busy preparing for the Sub-District Kalolsavam.
We also took part in the midday meal serving and dispersal duties. Overall, it was a pleasant and encouraging start to our teaching practice.

Day 2 (06/11/2025 – Thursday)

I reached the school at 9:15 a.m. Today was a regular working day at Government High School, Thalachira. Since I had no classes as per the timetable, I spent the day preparing lesson plans and teaching aids for upcoming sessions.A heartwarming moment brightened my day when Thanusree, one of my students, surprised me with a handmade gift — a beautiful set of chain, earrings, and ring crafted with pearls. It was a touching gesture that made me feel deeply appreciated and connected to my students.
“Tiny pearls, big emotions — a student’s love captured in a beautiful gesture.”
I also assisted with the midday meal serving and dispersal duties along with my peers. Overall, it was a calm yet memorable day filled with affection and gratitude that strengthened my bond with the students.

Day 3 (07/11/2025 – Friday)

Being Friday, the first period began at 9:30 a.m. As per the timetable, I had consecutive classes in 9B (English Medium) and 8A (Malayalam Medium) during the first and second periods. The first class in 9B was particularly special — the students surprised me by giving me a flower, expressing how much they had missed me over the past few days. Their affection and warmth truly touched my heart. I conducted the lessons effectively, following my lesson plans, and the students participated enthusiastically in all activities. After the classes, I assisted with the midday meal serving and dispersal duty. It was a busy yet fulfilling day, one that reminded me how rewarding the teacher–student relationship can be.

The first week of teaching practice was a warm and motivating start that strengthened my confidence as a teacher. The students’ affection and active participation made each day meaningful and reinforced my passion for teaching.
